It’s Tuesday evening, and I’m still riding the high from Notre Dame’s opening season win down in College Station. As I sit here, I can’t stop thinking about how grateful I am that Marcus Freeman is our head coach.
Now, this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Brian Kelly ghosted our football program and the University that embraced him for 12 years. And it’s definitely not about that fake southern accent he whipped out at a basketball game (quick reminder: he’s from Boston). Nor is it about the dramatic tantrums he throws at press conferences, especially after losing the season opener for the past three years.
No, my admiration for Marcus Freeman comes down to one thing: he’s a true players’ coach. He’s a phenomenal recruiter, and his energy is downright infectious. Watching him hype up our players in the visiting team’s tunnel before the ND vs. Texas A&M game got me hyped for this upcoming season and for season's to come.
Freeman is the reason why Notre Dame is poised to take the next step toward greatness and, hopefully, back to the promised land. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the best thing to happen to ND’s program was the moment when the fairy godmother waved her magic wand and bestowed $100 million upon the greedy Bostonian that is Brian Kelly to take the LSU job.
Marcus Freeman has that “IT” factor, and I truly believe he’s the man to lead the Fighting Irish to new heights!
